Astrology, the human mind, and why an inheritance does not guarantee a future

A child is born into a comfortable home. There is already a successful business, property accumulated over many years, and a family name that opens doors. Much of what others must struggle to obtain is available from the beginning.
Yet the child’s future remains unwritten.
One heir may expand the family enterprise. Another may experience losses and sell inherited assets. A third may choose a different profession and use the inheritance to support education or community work. Similar advantages can lead to very different lives.
What makes the difference? Temperament, upbringing, opportunity, judgement, or circumstances beyond individual control? For those interested in astrology, another question follows: might a birth chart offer a language for understanding how someone responds to life?
A resemblance between the structure of the universe and networks within the human brain provides an intriguing starting point. It invites curiosity, but does not itself answer the question.
A familiar pattern on an extraordinary scale
On its largest scales, the universe forms a web of filaments, concentrations of matter and immense intervening spaces. Gravity shaped this cosmic web as small differences in the early distribution of matter developed over time. NASA: Mapping the Cosmic Web.
In 2020, Franco Vazza and Alberto Feletti compared brain-tissue samples with a cosmological simulation. They found similarities in selected statistical and network properties despite the systems’ enormous differences in size and physical processes. Their network analysis approximated connections through proximity; it did not trace the brain’s actual neural wiring. Original research.

The research did not show that the universe functions as a brain, or that planets shape a newborn’s personality. A resemblance between two networks can inspire a hypothesis without establishing a shared function or causal connection.
From resemblance to a proposed blueprint
The expression “as above, so below” offers an evocative image: patterns within the individual appear to echo patterns in the wider world. From this perspective, a birth chart might be explored as a symbolic map of tendencies rather than a fixed sequence of events.
A stronger claim would be that planetary configurations physically influence the developing brain, which then influences behaviour and financial decisions. That is a separate hypothesis requiring evidence. Similarities between brain tissue and a simulated cosmic web do not supply the missing mechanism connecting planets to a person’s mind.
The distinction allows philosophical curiosity without presenting an untested biological explanation as established knowledge.
One inheritance, several possible futures
Consider an entirely fictional family. Over decades, the parents build a manufacturing business, acquire property and establish valuable commercial relationships.
One heir studies the business carefully, retains experienced employees and tests new products before committing substantial resources. Some experiments fail; another succeeds. Over time, the enterprise grows.
Another heir launches several ventures with substantial borrowing. When revenues disappoint, obligations remain. Assets are sold to meet commitments, and much of the inherited wealth is depleted. Even here, the explanation extends beyond personality: customers, financing terms and market conditions matter.
A third heir arranges an orderly sale and funds scholarships. The personal fortune becomes smaller, but describing this as financial failure would miss the intention. Resources have been redirected toward another purpose.

A balance sheet captures only part of a life. The relevant question is what happens when resources meet a particular person, a set of decisions and circumstances that continue to change.
Inherited wealth: three contrasting journeys
Consider three business people, identified here as Mr. MA, Mr. AA and Ms. GR. Their experiences offer a retrospective discussion of inheritance and stewardship, not a controlled test of astrology.
Mr. MA and Mr. AA are brothers who eventually assumed responsibility for different parts of a family enterprise. Their starting opportunities were related, but the businesses and risks were not identical. Over time, Mr. MA’s branch expanded substantially. Mr. AA also experienced considerable early success, followed by a serious erosion of wealth.
That sequence matters. Describing one brother as a lifelong creator of wealth and the other as a lifelong destroyer would conceal the early gains of the latter. Acquiring wealth and preserving it are related but different challenges.
Ms. GR provides a third example. She inherited an interest in an established enterprise and subsequently developed it into a much larger business. The starting position included both valuable opportunities and commercial difficulties. Her experience illustrates how an inheritance can provide a foundation for substantial further growth without making that growth automatic.
These examples do not establish that any individual’s results came from personality alone. Financing, the assets received, the work of other people, market conditions and decisions all remain part of the explanation.
The charts as a symbolic reading
The charts use the Lahiri sidereal zodiac and mean lunar nodes. Where a supplied birth time is available, the interpretation uses whole-sign houses. The diagrams follow the Kerala/South Indian convention: signs stay fixed and houses are counted clockwise from Lagna. Birth details used for calculation are shown below. For Mr. MA’s Scorpio ascendant, Jupiter rules the second house of accumulated wealth and the fifth house traditionally associated with judgement and investment. It occupies the tenth house of work and public standing. The ninth-house ruler, the Moon, is in the second house. Within traditional astrology, this offers a coherent symbolic link between wealth, opportunity and professional activity.
The tenth-house ruler, the Sun, is exalted in the sixth house. A traditional reading connects this with competition and demanding responsibilities. Saturn in the ascendant and Rahu in the twelfth add complications; the chart is not an unconditional promise of success. The calculated ascendant is close to a sign boundary, so the unverified time materially limits this reading.

For Mr. AA’s Sagittarius ascendant, Jupiter rules the first and fourth houses and occupies the twelfth. An astrologer might associate this with expenditure, foreign activity or resources committed to large undertakings. Saturn, the second-house ruler, occupies the ascendant, which can also symbolise accumulation through discipline and responsibility.
Mars, ruler of the fifth house, is debilitated in Cancer in the eighth house alongside Venus, ruler of the sixth and eleventh. Within traditional symbolism, this suggests a more complicated interaction between investment, gains, obligations and disruption. Mercury, the tenth-house ruler, is in the sixth, while Rahu occupies the tenth. Earning potential and ambition coexist with pressures on preservation.
The Moon is close to a sign boundary in the supplied calculation. Its position should therefore not be used as a confident foundation for an exaltation-based argument.
Within this traditional framework, Mr. MA’s supplied chart presents the clearer pattern for sustained accumulation. This is an interpretation made after the financial outcomes are known. It is not a validated prediction, a judgement of either brother’s character, or evidence that Mr. AA cannot rebuild wealth.

For Ms. GR, the noon calculation places Mars in Scorpio, its own sign, and Saturn in Libra, its exaltation sign. Traditional symbolism can associate these positions with sustained effort and organisation. They do not independently demonstrate wealth-producing ability.
Although the Moon remains in Aries across the supplied birth date, it crosses a nakshatra boundary during that day. Neither the birth nakshatra nor the starting Vimshottari period can be established from the date alone. Her unknown birth time also prevents a dependable house-based comparison with the brothers. The illustrative noon chart must not be treated as a verified natal chart.
Which planetary strengths are shared—and which differ?
There is no single planet that is identically strong in Mr. MA and Ms. GR and absent or uniformly weak in Mr. AA. The more useful comparison separates sign dignity, connections between planets, and house placement. This is a qualitative traditional reading, not a numerical Shadbala calculation.

The clearest shared structural feature is a sign exchange involving Venus. In Mr. MA’s chart the partner is Mars; in Ms. GR’s chart it is Saturn. A two-way exchange, traditionally called parivartana, connects the planets because each occupies a sign ruled by the other. But the same type of exchange also appears in Mr. AA’s exact-time chart, between Venus and the Moon. It cannot therefore be presented as a feature unique to the two people who sustained greater growth. Explanation of sign exchange.
The contexts differ. Mr. MA’s exchange connects the sixth and seventh houses under his supplied time, so it includes obligations and partnerships rather than being an uncomplicated wealth yoga. Mr. AA’s exchange connects the sixth and eighth houses, traditionally associated with obligations and disruption. Ms. GR’s Venus–Saturn exchange is visible at the sign level, but its houses cannot be established without her birth time.
The strongest contrast in straightforward sign dignity is Ms. GR’s Mars in its own sign versus Mr. AA’s debilitated Mars. Mr. MA’s more notable strength is different: an exalted Sun, together with the conditional Jupiter–wealth–career connection described above. Ms. GR also has an exalted Saturn. These are different configurations, not one identical “business-success planet.”
Common features can also complicate a reading. Venus is close to the Sun in both Mr. MA’s and Ms. GR’s charts, which traditional astrology treats as combustion. Jupiter is retrograde in all three calculations; that shared condition does not separate the financial outcomes either. Strength in one respect does not remove every other difficulty.
The careful conclusion is that Mr. MA and Ms. GR have identifiable traditional strengths, while Mr. AA has a more complicated combination in the supplied chart. His early wealth growth is consistent with the need to recognise his chart’s favourable features too. No single placement establishes who must become wealthy, retain wealth or lose it.
A life journey cannot be reduced to a planet
The broad financial trajectories can be described from family background through succession, expansion and later outcomes. The early years, however, do not justify inventing childhood traits or private experiences from a chart.
Traditional planetary periods can provide a symbolic chronology when reliable birth information exists. They do not divide life neatly into uniformly successful and unsuccessful chapters. In the brothers’ comparison, the onset of losses does not align with a simple story in which one major period produces only growth and the next produces only decline.
The relevant contrast is that Mr. MA sustained substantial expansion, Mr. AA experienced both growth and later erosion, and Ms. GR developed an inherited enterprise into something larger. These are descriptions of historical direction, not current audited personal balance sheets or predictions of their remaining lives.
Different industries, financing structures and starting conditions prevent these examples from isolating a planetary influence. Their value lies in clarifying the question: what allows an inherited advantage to be developed and sustained?
What we inherit—and what develops
Research on Swedish adoptees found an important role for the environment in which children were raised in the intergenerational persistence of wealth. Inheritance strengthened that relationship. Starting advantages cannot be ignored when discussing financial outcomes. NBER: Poor Little Rich Kids?.
A 2011 longitudinal study also found that childhood self-control predicted aspects of adult finances after accounting for childhood intelligence and social class. This was an observational association, not evidence that one trait determines a life or that planets produce that trait. Original study.
The brain is not completed at birth. Research has detected coordinated brain activity before delivery, while biological development and experience continue shaping the nervous system. Nor is a tendency always helpful or harmful. Caution may prevent excessive borrowing or delay necessary change. Ambition may encourage useful expansion or unsustainable commitments. Context and the capacity to learn matter.
What would count as evidence?
A convincing story after an outcome is known is not enough. Researchers would need reliable birth records, clearly defined predictions and measurable outcomes. They would need to account for starting wealth, upbringing, education, industry and access to capital.
Predictions should be specified before outcomes are examined and tested in new groups. The relevant question is whether astrological information adds reliable predictive value beyond ordinary financial and social information. A theory that explains every possible result after the fact cannot demonstrate that value.
Even a reproducible association would not automatically prove that planets shape neural development. A physical explanation would still need a measurable mechanism and tests of alternative explanations.
A genuine connection to the cosmos
Human life does have measurable astronomical connections. The light–dark cycle helps regulate circadian rhythms through identifiable biological pathways. These connections can deepen our sense of belonging to the universe. Each additional claim about planets, personality or wealth nevertheless needs its own evidence.
The contrasting journeys of Mr. MA, Mr. AA and Ms. GR bring the inheritance question into focus. Astrology can be explored as a symbolic language for reflecting on those journeys. The stronger claim that planetary configurations create the neural tendencies responsible for them remains unestablished.
A child’s worth is not measured by the size of the fortune left behind. Growth, loss and deliberate giving carry different meanings, and a person’s future remains open to development.
A family can pass on its wealth, its opportunities and its stories. It cannot pass on a guaranteed future.
