Keep this reference beside the chart and planetary-position table in your report. It explains what the labels identify; a label alone does not provide a complete traditional interpretation.
Rasi — രാശി
A zodiac sign: one of twelve equal 30° divisions of the zodiac. A planet’s Rasi is the sign containing its position under the zodiac convention in use. Janmarashi specifically means the Moon’s sign at birth in this context.
Example: “Moon in Vrishabham” gives a Moon-sign placement. It does not tell you the Lagna.
Lagna — ലഗ്നം
The ascendant: the point of the zodiac rising at the eastern horizon for the specified instant and place. Reports commonly give both a Lagna sign and its degree. The degree is more precise than the sign name alone.
The birth time and birthplace matter here. An approximate time should remain marked as approximate when discussing the chart.
Bhava — ഭാവം
A house used in traditional chart interpretation. House assignment depends on the stated method. With whole-sign houses, the Lagna sign is the first house, the next sign is the second, and so on.
For example, if the Lagna is Mithunam, Mithunam is house 1 and Karkidakam is house 2 in that method. Vrishabham is house 12. This illustrates the counting rule, not a prediction.
A separate Bhava table may use another method. OlaMatch’s reports distinguish the whole-sign Rasi layout from the separate Sripati Bhava calculation where included. A house assignment can differ while the planet’s Rasi remains the same.
Grahanila — ഗ്രഹനില
The arrangement or table of planetary positions. A detailed table can list the sign, degree, nakshatra and pada for each entry. Read the row and column heading together before copying a number.
| Notation | How to understand it |
|---|---|
| 12°30′ in a named sign | Twelve degrees and thirty arcminutes from that sign’s beginning. |
| 42°30′ around the full circle | Forty-two degrees and thirty arcminutes from the zodiac’s zero point. |
| R or a retrograde label | Apparent backward motion in the chosen zodiac coordinate, not a planet physically reversing its orbit. |
The first two rows can describe the same position if the named sign is the second sign and both use the same zodiac.
Nakshatra and Pada — നക്ഷത്രം, പാദം
In the usual 27-part system, a nakshatra spans 13°20′. Each has four padas of 3°20′. “Birth star” refers to the Moon’s nakshatra at birth; another planet’s nakshatra is a different row in the table.
Navamsa — നവാംശം
A division used to form the D9 chart. Each 30° sign is divided into nine portions of 3°20′ and mapped to signs according to the Navamsa rules. It is derived from the degrees of the natal positions. It is not a new chart for a later date.
