Dasha and Gochara are two different ways of discussing time in traditional astrology. Dasha assigns periods from a birth-based scheme. Gochara concerns planetary positions at the time being examined. Keep their headings separate when comparing dates.
Dasha / Mahadasha — ദശ / മഹാദശ
A major period assigned to a planetary lord in a traditional timing system. OlaMatch’s personal reports use Vimshottari Dasha, whose prescribed full sequence totals 120 years. This is the length of the scheme, not a prediction of a person’s lifespan.
The starting lord and remaining portion at birth are calculated from the birth Moon’s position within its nakshatra. People born in the same nakshatra need not start with exactly the same remaining duration.
Bhukti / Apaharam — ഭുക്തി / അപഹാരം
A subperiod within a Mahadasha. Antardasha is another commonly used name for this level. A paired label identifies the major lord first and the subperiod lord second.
For example, Venus–Mercury means Mercury’s subperiod within Venus’s Mahadasha. It does not mean that Venus’s Mahadasha has ended and Mercury’s Mahadasha has begun.
Dasha balance — ദശാശിഷ്ടം
The portion of the starting Mahadasha remaining at the birth instant under the chosen calculation method. It is not necessarily the complete duration assigned to that planetary lord.
A report’s balance is sensitive to the Moon’s calculated position. When comparing dates, also check the time zone and the year-length convention used by each system.
Period boundary — കാലഘട്ടത്തിന്റെ അതിർത്തി
The instant when one period ends and the next begins. A date-only summary is less precise than a table that includes the time and time zone. A different displayed date can sometimes describe the same instant in another time zone.
| Example label | What to check |
|---|---|
| Venus Mahadasha | The beginning and end of the major period. |
| Venus–Mercury | The shorter Mercury subperiod inside it. |
| “Current period” | The date for which the report was prepared. |
| “Ends on 12 September” | Whether a time and time zone are supplied elsewhere. |
These labels are teaching examples, not your personal Dasha dates.
Gochara — ഗോചരം
Transits: the planetary positions and changes for the date or interval under discussion, considered against the chosen reference. A current transit does not replace the natal position printed in your birth chart.
OlaMatch’s general daily horoscope is grouped by natal Moon sign. Its personal Gochara report uses your birth details and a stated report interval. A general daily paragraph and a personal Dasha period are different kinds of information.
What does a favourable period mean?
It describes a traditional interpretation of the factors selected by the method. It is not a guarantee that an event will happen, and a period name alone is not a complete assessment.
